East Grinstead SpeedQuizzing host raises funds for local charities
An East Grinstead quiz host has raised over £1,000 for two local charities through a series of virtual SpeedQuizzes.
Rob Marsh began hosting virtual quizzes as a way of keeping in touch with his quizzing regulars during lockdown, when all pubs were closed.
Using SpeedQuizzing Live, our free app and online platform which enables users to host and play fast-paced, interactive, virtual quizzes, Rob hosted his first weekly ticketed quiz on Sunday 19th April.
16 quizzes later, Rob has succeeded in raising £1,052 through a combination of him donating £1 for every quiz ticket sold and the winning teams donating their prize money.
£220 has been pledged to the local NHS Charities Together, while £832 is being donated to East Grinstead-based Jigsaw South East, which offers grief support to children and young people who have experienced the death of a significant family member through illness, accident, suicide or murder.
Commenting on the money raised so far, Rob said: “I’ve been running popular SpeedQuizzes in a couple of local pubs for over a year now, so when the lockdown came into effect I decided to take advantage of the SpeedQuizzing Live platform, and host virtual quizzes, primarily for my regular players.
“I had modest ambitions about raising some funds for good causes, so to say I’m delighted with what has been raised 16 quizzes on would be an understatement.
“I’ve had up to 50 teams joining every week from all over the country as word has spread, and they continue to show incredible generosity, supporting two causes that are very close to my heart.
“I’m returning to hosting my regular quizzes in local venues, but, as long as the demand is there, I’ll also continue to host virtual quizzes, with the aim of providing a bit of entertainment and raising money for good causes in the process.”
Sophie Bewley, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Jigsaw South East said: “The funds Rob and his players have donated mean the world to us. Charities like ourselves have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, so these donations are more important than ever in enabling us to continue with our important work.”
