Mallaig teacher announces latest fundraising quiz in support of suicide prevention charity
A fundraising Mallaig teacher who lost her brother to suicide is running a SpeedQuizzing Live quiz, in conjunction with Argos West of Scotland Region, in aid of the Wishaw-based suicide prevention charity, Chris’s House.
It’ll be the 11th virtual fundraising quiz Dawn MacPhie, a teacher at Mallaig Primary School, has hosted over the last 12 months – with over £2,000 raised so far for good causes, including the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), children’s mental health charity Lucy’s Blue Day, Mallaig Pool & Leisure Centre and Mallaig F.C.
The virtual quiz will take place on Saturday 8th May, between 7-9pm, with teams and individual players asked to make a minimum £5 donation to Chris’s House charity, which runs Scotland’s first 24-hour, non-medical crisis centre offering help, response and intervention surrounding suicide.
It’ll be run through our free app, SpeedQuizzing Live, which teams or individual players will need to download to their phone or tablet device in order to play the interactive, fast-paced quiz in real-time. They will also need a second, Zoom-enabled screen so that they can see and interact with Dawn and the other teams over the course of the three-round quiz, which will incorporate general knowledge and music rounds.
The prizes are being supplied by Argos, with a £50 voucher for the team that finishes first, while second and third placed teams will receive vouchers for £25 and £15 respectively.
Commenting on the forthcoming speed quiz in aid of Chris’s House, Dawn said:
“As someone who lost their own brother to suicide, I, along with my family, am a great supporter of the incredible work Chris’s House does to help prevent deaths from suicide and improve mental health.
“During these challenging times, their work has sadly never been more important and I’m proud to be able to show my support for them through this latest quiz, raising money for a very deserving cause and hopefully bringing some fun and excitement to people’s Saturday night.”
Anne Rowan, who founded Chris’s House, said:
“While our important work continues day in, day out, the last 12 months have been challenging from a fundraising perspective, with numerous fundraising events having to be sadly cancelled due to the pandemic.
“With this in mind, we’re more grateful than ever for the incredible support of fundraisers like Dawn, and organisations such as Argos. Their help really is making all the difference.”
