The Show Must Go On.. line !!
SPEEDQUIZZING is looking to save the pub quiz experience and deliver much-needed entertainment to millions of house-bound trivia lovers – thanks to new innovations enabling people to play from home. With pubs and venues closing to help combat the spread of coronavirus, it means thousands of weekly pub quizzes and trivia events around the globe have had to be cancelled for the time-being. In turn, this means that our original pioneering interactive pub quiz platform, as played in pubs, clubs and other venues, has been rendered temporarily redundant. However, rather than leave our countless trivia fans without their regular SpeedQuiz fix, we at SpeedQuizzing HQ quickly decided the show must go on – by going online.
In a short space of time, we’ve worked hard to put together new innovations to enable the thousands of pub quiz hosts worldwide to continue running their SpeedQuizzing events over the internet instead, with players being able to stay safe and take part at home. The first innovation is SQ Live, available from our website.
With SQ Live, all that players need is a reliable internet connection and two devices – an Android or Kindle Fire tablet (with the SQ Live app enabled) on which to play the quiz (like they would in the pub), and a device such as a laptop to listen, watch and interact with the host and other players. SpeedQuizzing hosts can run quizzes on the platform using their existing digital Question Packs, while new hosts simply need to purchase a single Activation from our website (for a minimal fee) to gain access to the software.
In addition to SQ Live, a second great product is imminent, providing a platform for even more SpeedQuizzing action but this time requiring only one device to take part. In both instances, the proven SQ formula still applies and the events are still fast-paced and exciting – only the new online platforms mean SpeedQuizzers can SpeedQuiz from the safety of their own home, wherever they are.
Explaining how SQ Live is different to other online quizzes, SpeedQuizzing co-founder Alan Leach said: “The problem with so many online quizzes is that they’re a bit of a faff to play, very susceptible to cheating, and slow to deliver the results. With SQ Live, we’ve managed to address all of these issues. Our app enables players to answer directly through their Android device, while the 10-second time-limit for answers massively reduces opportunities for people to cheat. And there’s no waiting a day to hear how you’ve done – our app automatically maintains scores, with results announced immediately. We hope that, during these difficult and extraordinary times, our app will serve to bring people together – remotely of course – and provide some much-needed entertainment, with people able to enjoy everything that’s great about the pub quiz from the comfort of their own home. SQ Live will only get even better, too. We created it as a team in an incredibly short space of time, so it’s still in beta mode currently, and we’ll be working hard to iron out any niggles over the comings days. As part of this work, we’ll be making our app compatible with Apple devices too.”
