Why are they so expensive? Ruckus is high end, enterprise level WiFi equipment, designed for use in large businesses. Even though the models we offer aren’t the very latest models, they are still of a high standard and the price reflects this. This is why as well as selling ‘Boxed As New’ units that have only been removed from the box by us to configure for SpeedQuizzing, we also source second hand Ruckus devices, check them over and configure / optimise them to work with SpeedQuizzing.
Do I need to connect these Access points to the internet? No, they don’t require Internet, the Master device creates a Local Area Network (LAN).
Can I use Ruckus AP’s with SQ Pocket Hubs? NO, Ruckus APs are to be used as an alternative to SpeedQuizzing Pocket Hubs, NOT in conjunction with.
I provide older tablets, could this be a problem? 5ghz WiFi compatibility was not enabled on some budget tablets such as Amazon Kindles pre 2019. If you are someone who provides players with these older devices then this could be a reason for sticking with the Pocket Hubs. Ruckus will work with older (2.4ghz only) devices, but will have no benefit over the Pocket Hubs when doing so.
How much better is coverage than the SQ Pocket Hubs? In our tests, under normal conditions player devices seem to stay connected slightly better over slightly longer range. But where they really excel is that they use dual WiFi bands to deal with WiFi congestion and crowded rooms significantly better than the single-band Pocket Hubs can. Plus they are infinitely more expandable.
Can I use one Ruckus device by itself? Yes. When configured as a Master AP it will work on its own or with multiple connected repeaters. But when configured as a Repeater AP it wont work by itself.
Do they need to be placed above head height? Bodies and other obstacles can inhibit WiFi coverage. For optimum performance in a room full of people, we recommend having them mounted on stands, away from obstacles and above head height. When Wirelessly meshing multiple APs together, it is beneficial for them to be above head height so that they can have line of sight with each other. With clear line of sight they may work as far apart as 60 meters from one another. However, through walls, people and obstacles this can be reduced to as low as 10 meters.
Why is the reset button covered on the Master device? Because this will permanently delete the SpeedQuizzing Master configuration. Holding the Master AP’s reset button will erase the SpeedQuizzing configuration. Don’t do this on a Master AP unless you intentionally wish to permanently demote it to a Repeater AP. One Ruckus AP must remain a Master AP.
Should I upgrade the Ruckus Firmware? No, never do this. Doing so will stop it from syncing with other SpeedQuizzing configured Ruckus APs.
Do Ruckus devices require players to enter a 6 digit PIN to play SpeedQuizzing? Only if you are still using the legacy SQPRO V4.
Can I purchase used Ruckus access points from elsewhere and configure them to work with SpeedQuizzing myself? You could try but we won’t be offering any support as it is a very technical process. Each configuration takes about 30 steps and can take up to 40 mins to complete.
